Three million hits
August 14, 2012
At some point this past Saturday, while I was on the radio pontificating about the Olympics and arguing with Sean Cary about Planned Parenthood, JPAttitude.com registered hit number three million. I guess that’s something worthy of pride. JPAttitude might not be setting the world afire but for a labor of love operated on a budget too small to afford shoe strings, it’s not bad.
Perspective can be discouraging when it comes to Internet popularity but let’s risk it. Here’s a small list of well-known sites and the traffic they draw:
Hit number three million came 96 days after hit number two million which came 241 days after hit number one million which came 861 days after I registered the domain name—so clearly the trend is upward and accelerating. Here’s a graph of the trend line, suggesting that hit number twelve million will come by the end of next year:
Twelve million! Jeepers, that’s a lot of computers stopping by to see what I have to say, ya know? It’s almost scary. I feel like a person who just learned that company is coming over but my house needs vacuuming and there are dirty dishes in the sink. JPAttitude doesn’t have a Facebook page, barely uses Twitter, does HTML manually in Windows Notepad, sends emails and takes comments using freeware, and doesn’t spend a dime promoting itself. How in the hell am I going to entertain twelve million people?
I better fill the fridge with beer.
In May, when the website registered two million hits, the graph’s trend line only reached six million by the end of next year, so in the last 96 days the forecast doubled. At some point I expect I’ll be hitting these “million” milestones so often it won’t warrant a comment but for now it’s still noteworthy and cool.
And encouraging. If I can get even a small percentage of those twelve million people to click on the Google ad—TOP RIGHT! THAT’S HOW THE WEBSITE MAKES MONEY PEOPLE!—Larry Page and Sergey Brin will have to share a piece of their forty-billion-dollar fortune with me.
Only a small piece to be sure but “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” right?

J.P. replies: Good timing on that question. After being challenged by Lady J on Broad View last week to write a column about Planned Parenthood, I decided today to make it the subject of my next column. Should be posted Tuesday, August 21, 2012. I don’t think Romney can get rid of PP but he can certainly defund them. There’s no excuse for using taxpayer money to pay for activities most Americans consider immoral.
