Planned Parenthood?

January 12, 2013

[J.P.’s Moment of Common Sense on Broad View, KBZZ 1270 AM and 96.1 FM in Reno.  Listen live Saturdays at 2:00 PM Pacific Time.]

Planned Parenthood released its annual report this week and once again this abhorrent organization set a new record for number of babies killed: 333,964 for the year ended June 30, 2012.  You have to wonder if their name is appropriate since “parenthood” has little to do with the nasty business in which they’re engaged.

We see this all the time with liberals.  Whatever name they use, the actual function tends to be the opposite.  Obamacare, for example, was officially titled the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act but it does the exact opposite of protecting patients and making health care affordable.  George Soros funds dozens of misnamed organizations, like America Coming Together which is antagonistically partisan, America Votes which encourages non-American illegal aliens to vote, and the American Constitution Society which trains hard-left lawyers to undermine the constitution.

Planned Parenthood’s misleading name is only part of the disinformation campaign they wage to hide that they’re little more than a giant abortion mill.  These people are so used to lying, last year the president of Planned Parenthood claimed they do mammograms, which they don’t.  Planned Parenthood has neither the inclination nor the equipment to perform mammograms.  That’s why Susan G. Komen for the Cure threatened to cut them off last year.  With $643 million in the bank, Planned Parenthood could easily afford the equipment and mammograms would be a genuine benefit to women’s health if that was their concern but they simply aren’t interested.

There’s not enough profit in mammograms, you see.

Nevertheless, in the second presidential debate and during numerous campaign speeches, Barack Obama repeated the lie about Planned Parenthood doing mammograms.  One thing about liberals, they’re consistent when it comes to vandalizing the truth.

Fortunately, this week’s annual report enables us to glean the truth about Planned Parenthood.  For one thing we see that, in addition to hundreds of thousands of abortions, they gave out emergency contraception 1,425,746 times.  The function of an emergency contraceptive is the same as abortion, to kill whatever human life may have been conceived, so that’s a total of 1,759,710 procedures designed to snuff out human life one way or another.

Now let’s look at the revenue generated by all this death and destruction.  The annual report doesn’t break it down but all we need is simple multiplication.  Abortions cost somewhere between $500 and $900 each, and believe it or not emergency contraceptives are just as expensive (if IUD insertion or the abortion pill are the method used).  If we take the low end of that range, to give them the benefit of the doubt, abortions and abortifacients generated $879,855,000 for the year ended June 30, 2012.  That’s 73.4% of total revenue, almost three quarters.

Clearly, killing babies is their main business in spite of the claim, repeated in every interview and every public relations announcement, and printed in black and white in their annual report, that abortions are only 3% of the services they provide.

How stupid do they think we are?  How could 3% of services generate 73.4% of revenue?

They manufacture that 3% number by classifying much of the abortion as women’s health services.  When you visit the website of a Planned Parenthood clinic and click on “abortion services” you get a list of stuff you’ll be given during your abortion:
1.  a pregnancy test
2.  counseling
3.  a conversation with a health care provider about your health
4.  lab tests/blood work
5.  a pelvic exam
6.  an ultrasound
7.  medications to make you more comfortable
8.  medication if you are Rh negative
9.  antibiotics
10. birth control information
11. birth control supplies
You see what’s happening?  That’s eleven things involved in the process of getting an abortion that Planned Parenthood can list as general women’s health services even though they are really nothing but steps involved in an abortion.

(By classifying steps in the abortion process as general health services, they can get reimbursed by Medicaid which would not be allowed if the steps were classified as abortion services.)

Blatant dishonesty is nothing new for Planned Parenthood.  They’ve been lying since their original founding by Nazi lovers and racists who were trying to stave off the “black and yellow peril.”  Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood’s founder, wrote that Slavs, Latin, and Hebrew immigrants were “human weeds... a deadweight of human waste,” and that blacks, soldiers, and Jews were “a menace to the race.”  She actually wanted to move beyond abortion and sterilize anyone she considered unfit.

If you think the racist background of the abortion business is ancient history, last year an abortion doctor in North Carolina was videotaped claiming to be doing taxpayers a favor by killing “those ugly black babies.”  Here’s the damning statistic: black people are 13% of the American population but get 36% of the abortions.  One reason for that is Planned Parenthood’s tendency to locate abortion clinics in inner cities where they’re accessible by minorities.

Here’s the galling part: 45% of Planned Parenthood’s funding (according to their annual report) comes from you and me, through government grants.  Since we just calculated that 73.4% of their business is killing babies, there’s no way you and I aren’t paying for it with our taxes whether we want to or not.

It’s time for America to stop listening to Planned Parenthood’s lies and stop giving them taxpayer money.  There’s a word for what they do and the word is genocide.

That’s... today’s dose of common sense.

“Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,  And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.  Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.  Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.  And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.” —Psalms 106:37-41

“A genocide in Africa has not received the same attention that genocide in Europe or genocide in Turkey or genocide in other part of the world.  There is still this kind of basic discrimination against the African people and the African problems.” —Boutros Boutros-Ghali

January 13, 2013 - Since when has the war on woman boiled down to getting birth control and abortions? Was there even a war? Is it just me, that on a list of important issues both of those are far down on my list? But then again, I'm too old to need either one. But I do have a daughter, and I certainly would hope that equal pay would be higher in my list and hers too, in a list of priorities. We watched the democratic convention, only to see what the opposition was talking about. I was particularly disturbed by the young lady who talked about getting free birth control while she was in college. How she couldn't afford it from the money she made from her summer job. Guess no one suggested abstinence, or the use of other types of birth control. But, I like to research what people say, I found it interesting that the school she had attended provided health insurance, of which birth control is covered for a nominal co pay. In fact if you go to the schools website, should you not have health insurance, then it is a condition for attendance to purchase the schools health insurance. We had the same thing when enrolling my daughter for college. We either had to provide our health insurance information or purchase a policy through the school. I am bothered by our tax dollars going to planned parenthood. Especially given the fact that they will not allow anyone to audit their books to prove that we are not paying for abortions. We are just supposed to take their word. I have always been a firm believer in "somebody that has nothing to hide..." – Pam T., Virginia

January 12, 2013 - Since most pro-choice people claim to be protecting the woman and don't consider the fetus a real human life, I'll address that aspect. I read somewhere that 35 percent of women will have an abortion before the age of 45. Studies have shown that as many as 85 percent of women's mental health suffers after an abortion. There are some women who do this before they are old enough to exercise sound judgement and literally think about it every day for the rest of their lives. Abortion rarely makes a better and stronger woman. Rather it imprisons a woman in emotional turmoil and guilt. Forever. Here's the thing, I've had babies and I've even lost one naturally. There are so many physiological components to pregnancy, that from the very beginning of the developement of the fetus the woman's body is producing massive amounts of hormones, and working hard to sustain that life. From the moment she finds out she's pregnant, a woman's changed mentally and emotionally. Losing a baby so quickly whether naturally or unnaturally is confusing to our bodies and minds. It messes you up. Whether the baby was wanted or not, God made us desire that life in order to sustain and nurture it. There is no way you can walk into a clinic, have an abortion, and walk out without having some mental baggage. Abortion doesn't solve a problem, it only creates a new problem. – Samantha, Michigan

January 12, 2013 - Love your columns, Mr. Travis. Every single one is completely on point. Planned Parenthood is an evil organization yet many, many women only see it as an innocent little agency that hands out birth control pills. The fact that I help pay for the killing of all those babies with my tax dollars makes me want to scream in agony. – Brenda, Detroit
